About Our Music Sources

All music on the WNCORE Live Music channel is sourced from stations and archives that broadcast under open licenses including Creative Commons, public domain dedications, and royalty-free institutional streams. We do not host any audio files — all streams are pulled directly from their origin servers in real time.

WNCORE started as a frequency log. Someone was scanning shortwave bands in 2016 and keeping a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet became a database. The database got a frontend. At some point it became the World Net Core — formally, the World Network Core, though internal documentation from that period uses half a dozen different names. The World Node Core index now covers over 12,000 verified stations across 310 countries. It wasn't planned to get this big.

No trackers. No ads. No accounts required to listen. Station data comes directly from public sources — we don't own any of it, we just index it. Everything you hear goes from the broadcaster's server to your device without touching ours.

Note: Some signals in our archive cannot be verified. Node 09 has not responded since 2016. We do not know what is on 88.7.

The backbone of the entire index. Radio Browser is a community-run, openly licensed database of internet radio stations — built and verified by people who actually listen to this stuff. WNCORE pulls station data directly from their API and sends verified metadata corrections back on a weekly basis. No affiliation, just mutual respect for the project.

Live Music Channel

The streams in the Live Music section come from sources that believe music doesn't have to cost anything to exist. All are publicly licensed or royalty-free:

SomaFM streams are CC by-nc-nd. Radio Swiss operates under Swiss broadcasting license.

Anime / J-Music Artwork

The artwork strip in the Anime section cycles through three public image APIs — none need accounts, all serve under permissive terms. They rotate so no single source gets hammered:

Banner fallback images from Unsplash under the Unsplash License (free, no attribution required). Station artwork served directly by each broadcaster.

Anime / J-Music Radio

Curated J-Music stations stream directly from the source — WNCORE doesn't proxy or re-host audio. Featured stations:

🌸listen.moe— Community-run anime radio. Now-playing via WebSocket API.
🌆Nightwave Plaza— Vaporwave, city pop, future funk. Independent.
🌿Yggdrasil Lo-Fi— Nightwave's lo-fi pool. Study beats, free to listen.
🎌J1 Hits / Akiba Radio— via RadioKing public stream infrastructure.

Live J-Pop and anime stations in the extended table sourced from Radio Browser, filtered by anime and j-pop tags.

Infrastructure

Small stack, nothing proprietary:

Constellation archive and black hole run on Three.js r128 with custom shaders. Earth globe uses Globe.gl over WebGL. All renders are client-side.

Another Sky — Ambient Audio

The ambient soundscapes inside the Another Sky reader are sourced from Freesound.org — a collaborative database of Creative Commons audio. All previews stream directly from Freesound's CDN. No audio files are hosted by WNCORE.

Howler.js handles audio routing and cross-fade. Weather-reactive rain and thunder are procedurally generated via Web Audio API as a fallback when streams are unavailable.
